East coast faculty position w/ focus on SEM

Hi all,

I figured this post would be most appropriate for the "Piebald Pub"...

R syntax highlighting

Testing a change. Hopefully this eliminates the bizarre html links in the syntax highlighting.

foo <- function(x,y) {
if (is.vector(x) && is.vector(y)) {
return(sum(x, y))
}
stop("drop and roll")
}

Rod McDonald

It was great to see Rod at the Society for Multivariate Experimental Psychology meeting this year. He was so full of life and energy and friendship. The passion he held for the field, for getting it right without unnecessary embellishment, for steering a course for future psychological and methodological research, and for doing so in a direct and civilized fashion was exemplary. Mindful of my last post to this area of the forum, I don't want this area to be one where I gripe into my beer about the passing of great contributors to our lives and technology.

Jobs

Bleh. The world's greatest inventor died yesterday. Too soon for jokes on that topic but I need some cheering up.

The bartender said "I'm sorry we don't serve tachyons in here". A tachyon walked into a bar.

Apologies if this one got to you earlier :).

Impish Sprites

I am curious to learn more about the "bonuds" --- are they the impish sprites that keep preventing my model from running? They seem to be a secretive bunch, but I caught mention of them in the following OpenMx warning:

Running ModelA
Warning message:
In model 'ModelA' NPSOL returned a non-zero status code 3. The nonlinear constraints and bonuds could not be satisfied. The problem may have no feasible solution.

I would very much like for the bonuds to be satisfied. Perhaps they are hungry? Do you think giving them a byte would help?

mxModel Names

So we see a lot of generic, semi-informative model names. ACE this, SEM that etc. which OpenMx politely tells us that it is running. Some more fun names might be:

"faster than Usain Bolt"
"away from reality"
"over like my cup doth"
"smoothly"
"another damn openMx script for a human"

etc...

Rhubarb says: Happy Friday!

Clicking on the picture of Rhubarb Piebald, our logo at the top, now takes you to a different location than clicking on the website title to the right of Rhubarb. Rhubarb was sad, people were asking: "what's up with that guinea pig?" and now everyone can find out!

Boulder BOF

Birds of a Feather, as they say...

This is a thread for people to suggest where they want to meet for food or ale and informal discussions of things SEMish during the Boulder workshop from Feb 27 to March 6.

I for one am dreaming of Colorado-style green chile and some musical entertainment.

Compliments to the Team

As the other forums deal with OpenMx problems, I wanted a forum to let the team know it is doing a great job.

I have gotten many super fast & helpful responses these last few weeks. Thanks to the Core Development Team for all your energy and support!
